Recently, Gmail for Android has introduced a new feature powered by artificial intelligence that enhances user experience by making inbox searches more efficient. On Thursday, Google unveiled the Gemini-powered feature, identified as Gmail Q&A, specifically for its Workspace clientele. This user-friendly tool enables individuals to query Gemini within their Gmail app to retrieve specific details from emails. Although this feature was previously available on the web version of Gmail, it is now accessible on the Android platform, with plans for an iOS launch in the near future.
The announcement came through a blog post where Google highlighted that users can locate this feature within the Gemini tool, conveniently positioned at the top-right section of the Gmail app. However, to utilize it, users must be logged into their Google Workspace accounts. Besides fetching information from the inbox, the feature also allows users to check for unread messages, filter emails from particular senders, or provide concise summaries of email contents.
To utilize this feature, users just have to tap the black Gemini star found in the top-right corner of the application. Another option is selecting the “summarise this email” prompt when navigating through an email thread. The tool can handle general inquiries such as “What was the cost of the company’s last marketing event?” and will efficiently sift through the inbox to provide answers.
Looking ahead, the company plans to enhance the AI's capabilities further, aiming to allow it to extract information from files and documents stored in Google Drive as well. Although the feature is currently being rolled out, it may take up to 15 days for full availability among all Workspace users. Importantly, only those who have subscribed to one of several add-ons—including Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium—will have access to this tool.
In addition, Google has released Gemini extensions for Google Keep and Google Tasks, further enriching the ecosystem for Workspace users. These extensions will enable users with Pixel 9 series devices to interact with both apps directly from the Gemini interface through text prompts, enhancing overall productivity.
