The cinematic landscape is always evolving, and following the remarkable success of the vampire thriller Nosferatu, a new initiative is emerging that promises to delve into dark folklore. Robert Eggers, the visionary behind the critically acclaimed Nosferatu, is now turning his creative energy toward werewolves with the upcoming film Werwulf. This new venture, which Eggers co-wrote with Sjón, aims to explore the ancient mythos surrounding these legendary creatures.
Set in 13th-century England, Werwulf is expected to showcase rich period dialogue, reminiscent of Eggers' earlier works, such as The Witch and The Lighthouse. Initially, there was an intriguing plan to present the film in striking black and white; however, this aspect has since been revised.
With the success of Nosferatu, the anticipation is high to see if Eggers can replicate his winning formula. The disappointing performance of Universal's Wolf Man, which struggled to resonate with audiences and was criticized for its lighter approach to horror, raises questions about how Werwulf will stack up in comparison. Nevertheless, with Eggers at the helm, one can expect a far more intense and captivating experience.
