The much-anticipated console launch of Colossal Order's Cities: Skylines 2 for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 has been hit by further setbacks. Initially intended for release in October, but delayed from an earlier Spring date, the developer has made it known that the game has yet to achieve its set objectives in terms of stability and performance.
The developer plans to comprehensively evaluate a new launch candidate in August. The results from this assessment will influence if it instigates a progression towards setting a launch date or compels further conflict resolution. The team is progressing steadily, albeit slowly, but persisting issues that detrimentally impact the gameplay experience are yet to be resolved.
The development team acknowledged this setback as disappointing and emphasized their commitment to informing stakeholders throughout the process, regardless if the news is not invariably positive.
The PC version of Cities: Skylines 2 was released in October 2023 and presently holds a "Mixed" critique on Steam, with only 52% of positive user reviews. The urban simulation game has faced pushback for its subpar performance and uninspiring updates. The release of the Beach Properties DLC, a paid content, in March, did little to change the public's perception and currently has an "Overwhelmingly Negative" rating on Steam.
