Ballerina Faces Delays: John Wick Spin-Off Undergoes Major Reshoots and Impacts Highlander Reboot

The challenges surrounding the release of the Ballerina film, a spin-off from the John Wick series, have been significant. Initially slated for an earlier release, the film has now been postponed to June 2025. Lionsgate explained that the change was made in order to improve the action scenes that franchise fans anticipate. Recent reports indicate that the endeavor did not merely involve minor adjustments under the guidance of John Wick's director, Chad Stahelski, but rather extensive reshoots.

Sources suggest that Stahelski had to undertake considerable reworking of the film, with numerous scenes reportedly filmed again in Prague in the absence of the original director, Len Wiseman. The implications of these reshoots have extended beyond Ballerina, affecting the timeline of Stahelski's upcoming Highlander reboot. This new take on the classic ‘80s series is set to feature Henry Cavill in the lead role.

Due to the rescheduling associated with Ballerina, Cavill has found himself involved with a new project, Voltron, as the script for Highlander continues to be refined. Insiders have noted that the level of involvement required from Stahelski demonstrates the significance of the Ballerina project within the John Wick universe. This film bridges the narrative gap between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, with the claim being that any shortcomings in this venture could impact the overarching franchise.

It is suggested that the delays have pushed Stahelski's plans for Highlander back by at least five months. Lionsgate has been contacted for a statement regarding these developments. Meanwhile, Ballerina has unveiled its first dynamic trailer, including a return appearance by Keanu Reeves as the iconic assassin.
